We're Re-opening! A few changes around here...

Hi friends! How are you doing these days?

We’re excited to be re-opening our doors to Springfield this Friday, May 8th. We will offer curbside and online pick up from our cafe, and will also have limited indoor and outdoor seating, that’s safely distanced from each other and frequently sanitized.

For EVENTS,

Until May 25th, we will only be allowed to book Gallery events if the gatherings are below 15. This may change, but we’re hoping it won’t!

For HOTEL BOOKINGS,

Rest assured that we are blocking off rooms for 48 hours between bookings for the safety of our staff and our valued customers.

Questions? Just ask! Email us at reservations@culturecstreet.com 24/7 and we’ll get back to you asap!

Thanks so much, and stay safe out there!

An Ode to our Building's Past

We opened our doors for the first time (to the public!) 4 years ago today, on April Fool’s. Though our building now houses a boutique hotel, event & co-working spaces, and a cafe, we opened each in stages, as they were completed. Our cafe was the first to open.

We purchased the building in 2011, though it took four years to get from point A (below) to point B (ready to open). Though we initially worked with contractors, a lot of the work was done by co-founder/owner Justin Beiler. Prior to his move to Springfield, his work was restoring historical homes in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, so this project was truly a labor of love for him.

It was our desire to keep as much as the history/integrity of the building intact as possible. There was so much character, but much that had to be re-constructed. Doors, wood, even ceilings were repaired & repurposed though they’ve found new homes under our roof. Heavy oak was used to build tables, beds and other furniture. Outside doors are now used in offices upstairs. Wood from the ceiling is now the siding in our Fireside Gallery event space.

Our building dates back to the late 1800’s; its resume reading Opera House, Drugstore, Doctor’s Office, Boarding House and most recently, Springfield Mattress Factory. (The mattresses in our hotel rooms we purchased from Springfield Mattress Factory (which still exists) as a homage to the building’s past.)

We love this building and street! If you’ve not yet visited us, we can’t wait to meet you and would love to give you a tour.

A few photos below of what our building looked like at the time of purchase in 2011!

p.s.! Can you spot us? A photo from a verrrry long ago of our street and building.

A Homeless Lens

Our friend Art has inspired us in more ways than one: his humility, attitude and creativity - but mostly, his heart for others. He began to frequent our coffee shop a good while ago and quickly became a beloved customer and friend.

Art is a photographer. He's a recovering addict/alcoholic and he's also homeless. Art has said very seriously, "Photography saved my life." He shoots with a Nikon Coolpix B500, his constant companion. His work is unique, creative and true to his voice. Becoming a professional photographer is his dream, but his heart is for the homeless.

We would love to invite you to a gallery of Art's photographs, many taken right here in Springfield. Each print will be for sale and all proceeds will go towards local homeless charities and organizations (Art's wish). "I'd like to dedicate the showing of my photos to the plight of the homeless in Springfield, Mo. We may be homeless but we are human. We laugh, we feel, we hurt, we cry, we love."

April 14 from 5-8pm - stop in, meet Art, hear his life story, see his photographs (& take one home!), have some coffee on us. We hope to see you!

Check out this great article the Springfield Newsleader did on Art & his show!

Construction on Commercial Street

We're excited for new & improved roads + sidewalks that will be coming our way soon! Until then, there's a little construction going on on Commercial Street that is prohibits you from getting to us from the east side of Commercial St (National, Glenstone).

Instead, please drive from the west side of Commercial Street where you can access us directly. The little detour will make your lunch, drink or stay here that much more enjoyable. :)

See you all soon!

The Bravery Board

Fireside Gallery is our event space at Culture - we host offsite meetings, filming, bridal showers, photoshoots, & parties. We love playing a small part in bringing community together.

Once a month, we are honored to host The Bravery Board gatherings which, in their words, "aim to cultivate a mindset that encourages and embraces goal setting, creativity, compassion, self-growth, and change." Each gathering is insightful and inspiring, and we feel lucky to know them and work with them. Their next event is August 13, more info on that here.

A few photos from today's gathering; the topic was "The Art of Simplicity."

417 Mag Feature!

We were thrilled to be featured in Springfield's 417 Magazine recently!

In their December 2015's issue, "Sweet Treats" they included a write up and photo of our affogato. We were honored to be included in such a worthy round up!

More recently, this past January they did a two page spread on our cafe and our food offerings. "Everything on the menu here sounds pretty basic, but the flavors are anything but." Such nice words from such nice people. Thank you so much, 417 Mag!
